The United States will begin minting a special $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump’s portrait as part of celebrations marking the country’s 250th anniversary, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Wednesday.
The front of the commemorative coin will feature Trump’s portrait alongside the inscriptions “Liberty”, “In God We Trust” and “1776–2026”. The reverse will display the bald eagle from the Presidential Seal.
According to the US Treasury Department, the coin will be produced at the Philadelphia Mint and is expected to go on sale this autumn in both rolls and bags. Officials clarified that although the coin has a gold-like appearance, it does not contain any actual gold.
The commemorative coin is one of several initiatives introduced by the Trump administration to incorporate the president’s image into the US currency system.
Other proposals reportedly include adding Trump’s signature to newly issued banknotes and introducing a commemorative US$250 banknote bearing his portrait.
