Eight Family Members Left Homeless After Water House Collapses

Date:

Eight members of a family were left without a home after the water house they lived in at Jambatan 18, Kampung Sim-Sim, Sandakan collapsed on Wednesday evening.

No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, which occurred at about 5.30pm.

Sandakan Civil Defence District officer Sulaiman Salama said the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) received an emergency call at 5.59pm before deploying seven personnel to the location to conduct monitoring and safety checks.

He said initial inspection found that the rear section of the house had collapsed, believed to have been caused by strong winds.

“Initial findings showed that the balcony area of the house had collapsed on Tuesday before the entire rear section gave way the following day,” he said.

Sulaiman said APM personnel carried out checks to ensure no residents were injured while securing the affected area to prevent any further danger.

The occupants were also advised not to approach the collapsed section due to safety concerns and were encouraged to lodge a report with the relevant authorities for further assistance and follow-up action.

The monitoring operation was fully concluded at 7.03pm after the area was confirmed to be safe.
