A single-storey house occupied by four families involving 16 residents was completely destroyed in a fire at Kampung Niup, Kota Samarahan early Thursday morning.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at 4.19am before firefighters from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 4.46am.
The operation was assisted by personnel from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.
Bomba said the fire involved a permanent house measuring approximately 32 feet by 70 feet, which was completely destroyed by the blaze.
A neighbouring house was also affected, with around five per cent of its roof damaged due to the spread of flames.
Firefighters successfully brought the fire under control at 5.03am before carrying out cooling and inspection works to ensure the area was safe.
The operation ended at 7.20am after the fire was fully extinguished and no further danger was detected.
