Najib Razak To Undergo Heart Procedure, Lawyer Confirms

Date:

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is scheduled to undergo a heart procedure, according to his lawyer Farhan Shafee.

Farhan confirmed reports regarding the treatment but said details on the date, time and location of the procedure could not be disclosed.

“The family has requested privacy. We will provide updates from time to time,” he said.

Najib, 72, is currently serving a six-year prison sentence after being convicted in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case, with his sentence scheduled to end on Aug 23, 2028.

He was also convicted by the High Court in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case involving abuse of power and money laundering charges, and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment. The sentence will begin after completion of his current jail term, although Najib has filed an appeal against the decision.

Previously, Najib was admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital in September 2022 due to issues involving fluctuations in his blood pressure.

At the time, former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin denied claims that Najib was receiving special treatment after speculation emerged online regarding a possible transfer to Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital for access to VIP facilities.

The latest development comes as Najib continues serving his sentence while legal proceedings related to his other conviction remain ongoing.
