Vape devices, e-liquids and cigarettes worth more than RM160,000 were seized during a statewide integrated operation targeting premises suspected of selling non-compliant e-cigarette products.

Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said the enforcement operation was conducted on Wednesday with the involvement of the GOF, Ministry of Health (MOH) and local authorities.

He said simultaneous inspections were carried out at 30 e-cigarette-related premises across Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Lundu, Betong, Mukah, Sibu, Miri and Limbang.

“From the 30 premises inspected, 14 were found to be suspected of being involved in the sale and distribution of e-cigarette devices that did not comply with legal requirements,” he said in a statement.

Lim added that authorities also discovered various types of cigarettes believed to have been sold in violation of the conditions stated in the premises’ permits.

The premises involved included one each in Padawan and Lundu, five in Betong, three in Mukah, as well as two each in Sibu and Miri.

He said the total seizure involved 1,279 vape devices, 19.24 litres of vape liquid and various cigarette products, with the estimated value amounting to RM160,717.60.

The operation was carried out as part of ongoing enforcement efforts to ensure businesses comply with regulations governing the sale and distribution of e-cigarette products.
