Two local men were arrested after they were suspected of being involved in drug-related activities during a police operation at an oil palm plantation area along Jalan Bayan Ulu on Friday.
Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the raid was carried out at about 2.30pm on July 17 by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) of the Mukah District Police Headquarters.
He said the operation was conducted following information received by police regarding suspected drug activities at a hut located in front of the plantation area.
During the inspection, police found a transparent straw tube containing crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine, also known as syabu, weighing about 0.41 grams on the first suspect, aged 44.
A check on the second suspect, aged 30, however, did not uncover any illegal items. Both suspects and the seized items were then taken to the Mukah District Police Headquarters for further action.
Muhamad Rizal said urine screening tests showed both suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The 44-year-old suspect, who is unemployed and has one previous drug-related record, is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for self-administration of dangerous drugs.
The second suspect, who works as a heavy machinery operator, is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and was released on police bail pending prosecution.
Muhamad Rizal said the Mukah District Police Headquarters remains committed to combating drug abuse and urged members of the public to provide information on related activities by contacting the Mukah police hotline or visiting the nearest police station.
