Man Remanded For Allegedly Assaulting Wife After Family Dispute

Date:

An unemployed man has been remanded for six days starting today after he was suspected of assaulting his wife during a domestic violence incident at a house in Jalan Kubang Siput, Arau.

Arau district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said the 39-year-old suspect was issued a remand order by the Kangar Magistrate’s Court until July 23 to facilitate investigations.

He said the suspect was arrested at about 11.44am yesterday after voluntarily appearing at the Arau District Police Headquarters (IPD) to provide his statement.

Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred at around 5pm on Thursday following an argument between the couple over the victim’s intention to bring their youngest child along while picking up another child from school.

The 40-year-old victim reportedly refused to leave their four-year-old child with the suspect, who had allegedly become aggressive shortly after waking up.

Police alleged that the suspect pulled the victim’s hair, forced her head onto the floor and repeatedly punched her in the lower back, leaving her in pain and struggling to breathe and stand.

The woman, who works as a cendol seller, later lodged a police report after fearing for her safety. She also claimed that similar incidents had allegedly occurred on several previous occasions.

The victim was taken to Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, where medical examinations confirmed she suffered soft tissue injuries but did not sustain any fractures.

Police also revealed that the suspect has six previous criminal records, including offences involving drugs and other criminal activities. Statements from the victim and witnesses have been recorded, while investigations are ongoing
