Several houses in Sibu Jaya suffered roof damage after strong winds accompanied by heavy rain swept through the area at about 3pm today.
No injuries were reported in the incident, with most affected residents believed to have been away from their homes when the storm struck.
Residents said the weather changed suddenly before powerful winds hit the neighbourhood, causing roof sheets from several houses to be torn away.
One resident, who declined to be named, said neighbours were shocked after hearing loud noises and seeing parts of roofs being blown off by the strong gusts.
“Some homeowners were still at work when the incident happened, so neighbours contacted them after the storm passed,” the resident said.
Another resident said members of the community quickly checked the affected houses and worked together to reduce further damage by moving belongings away from areas exposed to rain and covering damaged sections.
Resident Juntan Andy, 46, said the storm only lasted for a short period but caused significant damage to several properties.
He said the strong winds were unusual but expressed relief that no one was injured as many homeowners were not present during the incident.
Residents are now hoping relevant authorities will assess the damage and provide assistance to families affected by the storm.
The total number of houses affected and the overall extent of losses have yet to be confirmed.
