MIC Says BN-PN Deal Limited To Avoiding Seat Clashes

Date:

The cooperation between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) has never been discussed during BN party meetings, said MIC president Tan Sri S A Vigneswaran.

He said the only agreement reached between the two coalitions involved seat allocation for the Negeri Sembilan state election to avoid clashes between candidates.

Vigneswaran explained that BN will contest 25 seats while PN will contest the remaining 11 seats in the 36-seat state assembly election.

“Until now, the issue of cooperation has never been discussed in BN meetings. What was agreed upon was only the seat distribution,” he told Sinar Harian.

He added that discussions on an official political alliance between BN and PN had not taken place, stressing that there were no agreements for either coalition to campaign on behalf of the other.

The MIC president said he wanted to avoid making statements that could create confusion, as the decision made so far only involved ensuring there would be no contests between BN and PN candidates.

Previously, PN completed the list of candidates for the Negeri Sembilan election after announcing 11 candidates without involving Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), following BN’s earlier announcement of 25 candidates.

Vigneswaran reiterated that the arrangement between BN and PN was solely aimed at preventing clashes in seats and not a formal cooperation between the two coalitions.
