Illegal Modifications, No Licence Among Offences Detected In Miri Ops

Date:

Police seized 11 motorcycles and issued 45 summonses during an Op Samseng Jalanan operation conducted in several areas around Miri between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Miri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation, carried out from 11pm until 3am, was led by the district police’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.

He said the enforcement operation targeted areas frequently used by motorcyclists, including Miri city centre, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina, Jalan Canada Hill, Jalan Piasau and Jalan Pujut.

“During the operation, police inspected 31 men and four women involving 35 motorcycles. A total of 11 motorcycles were seized under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Various traffic and technical violations were detected, resulting in 45 summonses being issued,” he said in a statement shared on the Miri Police official Facebook page.

Among the offences recorded were riding without a valid licence, illegal motorcycle modifications, excessive noise from modified exhaust systems, missing side mirrors, motorcycles without registration plates and the use of unauthorised ‘fancy’ registration numbers.

Mohd Farhan said police would continue taking firm action against individuals involved in illegal street racing activities that could endanger their own safety and that of other road users.

He also reminded the public to comply with traffic regulations, avoid making vehicle modifications that do not meet approved specifications and refrain from activities that could disturb public safety and order.

Members of the public with information regarding illegal street racing activities have been urged to contact the Miri District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station to assist further enforcement action.
