Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Linggi state constituency, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, said he prefers a smaller campaign approach to ensure voters feel more comfortable when meeting him.
The former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar said the strategy allows him to have closer conversations with residents and better understand their concerns without creating a large presence that could make the public feel uneasy.
“For me, I want to make it easier to meet the people. I do not want to come with a large entourage because residents want to meet me, not a big group of people.
“I have campaigned this way since 2008. If possible, going with just two or three people is enough, as long as I can meet the people directly,” he said after engaging with Indian voters during a campaign programme in Pekan Pasir Panjang.
Aminuddin, who is also PKR vice-president, said he was touched by the warm response from the Indian community during the programme, describing the support as a positive sign for PH in the area.
He stressed that his position as a caretaker Menteri Besar does not give him any advantage during the campaign period, as he is unable to make government decisions while carrying out his duties in a caretaker capacity.
“The Menteri Besar position is now only as a caretaker. It does not provide any advantage because I cannot make decisions at this time. I am going through this campaign like any other candidate,” he said.
Commenting on Linggi, which has traditionally been viewed as a Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold, Aminuddin acknowledged that campaigning in rural areas presents different challenges compared to urban constituencies.
He said he needs to meet as many voters as possible, engage with all communities and explain his offers to the people regardless of race.
“Here, the area is mostly villages, so movement is more limited compared to housing areas where I can walk from house to house more quickly. However, I will do my best,” he said.
Earlier, Aminuddin began his campaign activities at dawn by performing congregational prayers at Pasir Panjang Mosque before having breakfast with residents.
He later continued with welfare visits to elderly residents who were bedridden, followed by engagements at markets, local stalls and a community gathering with Indian residents in the area.
