Two people were killed after the Perodua Bezza they were travelling in collided with a Mitsubishi Triton along Jalan Sibu-Durin this afternoon.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the victims, identified as Julaihi Raduan, 52, and Marliza Salleh, 49, were found trapped and unconscious inside the car following the crash.
The department received an emergency call at about 4.15pm, prompting six firefighters from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station to be dispatched to the scene. They arrived seven minutes later.
Firefighters used rescue equipment to extricate both victims from the vehicle before they were pronounced dead by Health Ministry medical personnel.
The Mitsubishi Triton was carrying five people — two adults and three children.
A 33-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, while a 45-year-old man and three children aged four, seven and 10 were reported to be safe.
