Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi is confident that Barisan Nasional (BN) can secure victory in the Negeri Sembilan state election if its machinery maintains the same teamwork approach that contributed to its success in Johor.
He said BN’s strong performance in Johor was not achieved by chance, but was the result of close cooperation among its component parties including UMNO, MCA, MIC and Friends of BN.
“Let us win Negeri Sembilan for BN, insya-Allah. I see that the machinery’s spirit is very good and I will assist as much as I can.
“The secret behind our victory in Johor was teamwork. Everyone moved together as one team regardless of party,” he said.
Onn Hafiz was speaking at the Negeri Sembilan election machinery gathering and the launch of the BN Tampin campaign mobilisation programme at Dataran Kampung Tengah, Gemencheh on Sunday.
Also present were Tampin UMNO division chief Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa and BN candidates for the Gemencheh and Repah state seats, Suhaimizan Bizar and Koh Kim Swee.
He said another factor behind BN’s victory in Johor was the machinery’s ability to counter allegations, criticisms and unrealistic promises made by opponents during the campaign period.
According to him, the same approach should be adopted by BN’s election machinery in Negeri Sembilan to strengthen public confidence towards the coalition.
“Our mission is not to be proud or arrogant because of the Johor victory, but to share our experience so BN in Negeri Sembilan can achieve better results.
“If previously we could win with a small majority, today we have proven that we can secure victory with a bigger majority,” he said.
Onn Hafiz also described the current spirit among BN supporters in Negeri Sembilan as positive and believed the unity shown by the machinery could translate into success if everyone continued working together.
Meanwhile, he said the presence of volunteers and youths from Johor at the Tampin parliamentary constituency reflected their solidarity in supporting BN’s campaign efforts.
“The youths from Johor want to support the youths in Negeri Sembilan. We came here to help and ensure BN’s victory,” he said, drawing cheers of support from those present.
