Iran Claims Downing US MQ-9 Drone Over Ahvaz Amid Rising Tensions

Date:

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it shot down a United States (US) MQ-9 drone over the airspace of Ahvaz city in southwestern Iran on Sunday, according to Iran’s state-owned broadcaster IRIB.

The report was carried by Anadolu Ajansi (AA), while US officials have yet to issue any statement regarding the claim.

The alleged incident comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate, particularly over developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

Both countries have carried out retaliatory attacks in recent weeks despite efforts to establish a framework agreement through Pakistan’s mediation aimed at ending the conflict and achieving a lasting peace deal.

The latest development adds to growing concerns over the possibility of further military confrontations between the two nations.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key strategic area due to its importance in global energy shipments, making any escalation in the region a matter of international concern.
