16-Year-Old Arrested After High-Speed Chase With Police in Kuala Terengganu

Date:

A teenage boy was arrested for driving without a license and dangerously tailgating a police patrol car after failing to stop when ordered during an incident on Jalan Bandar Baru last Monday.

Kuala Terengganu District Deputy Police Chief Supt Wan Mohd Zaki Wan Ismail said the incident occurred around 6:30 pm when two members of the Police Mobile Patrol (MPV) spotted a grey Proton Wira driving suspiciously in the area.

The officers approached the vehicle and instructed the driver to stop, but the suspect ignored them and sped off. “The patrol officers chased the car while repeatedly instructing the suspect to stop over the loudspeaker, but he refused to comply,” Supt Wan Mohd Zaki said.

He added that the suspect continued driving recklessly, even tailgating the patrol car. For the safety of the officers, they fired a warning shot from an HK MP5, which finally compelled the suspect to slow down and stop.

Checks revealed that the 16-year-old student was driving his brother’s car without permission. Police contacted the suspect’s parents for further investigation.

“The suspect was issued a summons for driving without a license and given a stern warning not to repeat the offense before being released,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from performing their duties. Supt Wan Mohd Zaki also reminded parents to supervise their children and urged the public not to misuse social media to spread speculation.
