Actress Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad has been acquitted by the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur of three charges of abetting bribery involving RM2.8 million linked to investments in Public Mutual Berhad unit trust funds.
Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad ruled on Monday that the defence had successfully raised reasonable doubt over all three charges brought against the 48-year-old celebrity, resulting in her being discharged and acquitted. The ruling brings an end to a long-running court case that had attracted significant public attention due to the high-profile individuals involved.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutors Law Chin How and Mohd Fadhly Mohd Zamry, while Zizie Izette was represented by lawyers K. Kumaraendran, M. Athimulan and Ridha Abdah Subri.
Under the first charge, Zizie Izette was accused of abetting her late husband, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who was then the non-executive chairman of FELCRA Berhad, in obtaining RM2.2 million in cash from Public Mutual investment agent Madhi Abdul Hamid.
The alleged payment was said to have been an inducement for Bung Moktar to secure approval from the then Second Finance Minister for FELCRA Berhad to invest RM150 million in Public Mutual unit trust products.
For the second charge, she was accused of assisting Bung Moktar in obtaining RM262,500 through a Public Islamic Treasures Growth Fund (PITGF) account registered in her name for the same purpose.
The third charge alleged that she had similarly abetted Bung Moktar in receiving RM337,500 from another Public Mutual investment agent, Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar, through a Public Ittikal Sequel Fund (PITSEQ) account registered under her name.
The offences were alleged to have taken place at the Public Bank branch in Taman Melawati on 12 June and 19 June 2015. She was charged under Section 28(1)(c) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of five times the value of the alleged bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Earlier this year, on 16 January, the same court also discharged and acquitted the late Bung Moktar of the three corruption charges after the prosecution decided not to proceed with the case following his death on 5 December 2025.
