Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a woman was found floating in a river with her hands and feet bound in Pengerang, Johor, on Sunday night.
Kota Tinggi police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusof Othman said officers received a report from members of the public at about 9pm regarding the discovery of a woman’s body in Sungai Tanjung Serindit, Ulu Papan.
Following the report, a team from the Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters, together with forensic officers from the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters, was dispatched to the scene to conduct investigations.
Initial examinations found that the woman had died at the location and that both her hands and feet had been tied with rope.
Police have yet to establish the victim’s identity or nationality, while the exact cause of death remains under investigation.
Yusof said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The victim’s body has been sent to Hospital Pasir Gudang for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Police are urging anyone with information about the case or who may have a missing family member to come forward to assist with the investigation.
