A 68-year-old man was killed after the lorry carrying a load of palm oil fruit he was driving was involved in a road accident along the Alor Gajah–Melaka Tengah–Jasin (AMJ) Highway near Kampung Batu Gajah, Sungai Rambai, on Monday.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel after becoming trapped in the driver’s seat of the three-tonne lorry.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) public relations officer Deputy Fire Superintendent II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 11.50am.
A team of six firefighters from the Merlimau Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene with a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
“Upon arriving at the scene at 11.58am, the operations team confirmed that the accident involved a three-tonne lorry transporting palm oil fruit.
“The elderly driver was found trapped in the driver’s seat and was pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel,” he said in a statement.
Firefighters carried out an operation to extricate the victim before handing the body over to MOH personnel for further action.
Mohd Hafidzatullah said the operation concluded at 1.19pm after firefighters confirmed there were no further hazards at the scene.
