A cow herder has been remanded for four days by the Magistrate’s Court here to assist investigations into an alleged incident involving obstruction of police duties at Balik Pulau Public Market yesterday.
The remand order against the 43-year-old man was issued by Magistrate Chia Huey Ting and will remain in effect until July 25.
The detention was granted to allow investigations to be carried out under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties.
Earlier, a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) team conducting patrols at the market area discovered the suspect’s motorcycle parked near the food court, while the man was seen behaving suspiciously.
During the inspection, the suspect allegedly failed to cooperate with police officers, leading to a heated argument before he was accused of assaulting an officer by hitting him on the chest.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken to the Southwest District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.
Police are continuing their probe into the incident, while checks found that the suspect had previously been arrested in 2024 for a similar offence involving an alleged assault on a police officer during an inspection.
