Two siblings’ plan to return to Johor was interrupted after they were detained by the General Operations Force (PGA) for entering Malaysia through an illegal crossing point yesterday evening.
The siblings, a 19-year-old man and his 14-year-old sister, were detained at about 6.45pm after crossing Sungai Golok from Thailand into the Kedap illegal jetty area.
Southeast Brigade PGA Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the duo was detected during a monitoring operation while travelling on a boat approaching the illegal crossing point.
“Following the observation, both individuals were detained. The 19-year-old man is a Thai citizen and failed to produce identification documents, while his younger sister is a Malaysian citizen with an address in Johor,” he said.
Ahmad Radzi said initial investigations found that the pair had paid RM30 for the boat ride to cross the river.
He said the man claimed he entered Malaysia to accompany his sister on her journey back to Johor.
Meanwhile, the teenage girl claimed that she had entered Thailand last Friday for family-related matters through the same illegal crossing route.
The case has since been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Pasir Mas District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action under Sections 5(2) and 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
