PM Anwar Slams Rivals For Fighting Over Menteri Besar Post Ahead Of State Poll

Date:

Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has criticised opposition leaders for allegedly being more focused on fighting over the menteri besar position than serving the people.

Speaking at the Unity Dinner in Taman Sri Penaga, Sikamat on Wednesday night, Anwar said the priority after any election should be ensuring the elected representatives are capable of governing the state effectively and safeguarding the interests of all Malaysians.

“Look at the other side. So many of them are already fighting over who should become menteri besar. Even before the election, they’re competing for the post, and they’ll probably continue fighting after the election too.

“So don’t give them the chance to keep fighting. Give the mandate to PH leaders who have proven that they are focused on working for the people,” he said.

Also present at the event were Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who is contesting the Linggi state seat, PH candidate for Sikamat, Nor Azman Mohamad, and PH candidate for Ampangan, Datuk Muhammad Nazri Kassim.

The Prime Minister urged Negeri Sembilan voters to retain Aminuddin as menteri besar, citing his strong track record in leading the state administration without being tainted by corruption or abuse of power.

Anwar, who is also PKR president, also criticised politicians who resort to racial rhetoric during election campaigns to gain support.

He said the Unity Government remains committed to governing fairly and inclusively, providing assistance to all communities regardless of race through increased socio-economic allocations, housing initiatives and salary adjustments for civil servants.

For the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election, PH is contesting all 36 state seats, fielding 16 PKR candidates, 11 DAP candidates, and nine Amanah candidates.

The Election Commission (EC) has set 1 August as polling day for the Negeri Sembilan state election, while early voting will take place on 28 July.
