Three women who went viral for performing the dangerous ‘Superman’ motorcycle stunt along Jalan Kuantan Bypass were charged at the Kuantan Traffic Court on Thursday.
However, only two of the accused pleaded guilty to the charge of dangerous riding, while the third claimed trial after the charge was read before Magistrate Wahidah Zainal Abidin.
The accused who pleaded not guilty was identified as Nur Liana Atirah Roslan, 21, while the other two women, aged 18 and 19, admitted to the offence.
According to the charge sheet, the trio were accused of riding a Yamaha LC135 motorcycle in a dangerous manner by performing the ‘Superman’ stunt while travelling from Terminal Sentral Kuantan towards Bukit Rangin along Jalan Kuantan Bypass at about 12.30am on 16 July.
They were charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000 upon conviction.
A conviction may also result in the offenders being disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least two years for a first offence and 10 years for a second offence. Any probationary driving licence may also be revoked by the court.
During the proceedings, prosecuting officer Inspector Noraini Mohd Nor requested bail of RM5,000 for Nur Liana. However, the accused appealed for a lower amount, telling the court that she works as an ice cream shop assistant earning RM2,000 a month.
The court granted her bail at RM3,000 with one surety and fixed 26 August for the appointment of counsel and submission of case documents.
As for the other two accused, aged 18 and 19, who pleaded guilty to the same charge, the court scheduled 26 August for the submission of social and character reports, as both are classified as young offenders.
The 19-year-old was granted RM3,000 bail, while the 18-year-old was released on RM2,000 bail, each with one surety.
