US President Donald Trump said he will discuss artificial intelligence (AI) with Chinese President Xi Jinping during Xi’s visit to the United States on September 24.
Xi’s visit follows a meeting between the two leaders during Trump’s trip to China earlier this year, where Trump extended an invitation for the Chinese president to visit the White House.
“President Xi is coming over on September 24, and we talked about artificial intelligence when I was in Beijing. We’ll be discussing it again,” Trump said on Thursday.
The planned talks come as both countries seek to strengthen communication on key strategic issues, including emerging technologies.
Earlier on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also held discussions on the importance of identifying areas of cooperation ahead of Xi’s visit.
According to the US, both sides agreed on the need to lay the groundwork for what they described as a “very positive visit” later this year.
