Baby Among 12 Injured After Safari Bus Carrying British Tourists Crashes In Turkey

Date:

A six-month-old baby was among 12 people injured after a safari bus carrying British holidaymakers veered off the road and overturned during a tour in Alanya, Turkey.

The crash occurred at around 3pm local time near Manavgat, a popular tourist destination known for its waterfalls and ancient sites.

According to reports, the open-top safari bus left the road while travelling at an estimated 40mph, allegedly after attempting to overtake another tour bus during a water fight activity organised as part of the excursion.

The vehicle reportedly rolled several times before coming to rest on its side, trapping passengers inside.

Witnesses said around 12 passengers, including six children, were left hanging upside down by their seatbelts. A 13-year-old girl was reportedly trapped underneath the bus, while some passengers were thrown from the vehicle through the windows.

Emergency services, including ambulances and police, were dispatched to the scene, although witnesses said it took about 30 minutes for help to arrive due to the remote location.

A British tourist travelling in another bus within the same convoy described the aftermath as “traumatising”.

“There was lots of blood and broken bones. The bus rolled several times before landing on its side. Children were crying and many passengers were covered in blood,” the witness said.

He added that fellow tourists climbed onto the overturned bus to rescue trapped passengers before emergency crews arrived.

The safari tour involved a convoy of seven buses travelling through the Taurus Mountains as part of an eight-hour excursion that included sightseeing stops and recreational activities.

The tour operator, Tony Montana Excursions, said it acts only as a booking agent and does not directly manage the tours.

In a statement, the company said its priority was the welfare of those involved and that it would refrain from further comment until all the facts surrounding the incident had been established.

The condition of those injured has not been officially disclosed, while authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the crash.
