Four contractors were issued compounds during Op Korekan Jalan Awam in Kuala Lumpur after failing to comply with work site requirements during enforcement checks conducted recently.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said the operation was carried out at several locations including Jalan Syed Putra, Jalan Tun Sambanthan and Jalan Taman Setiawangsa from 10pm until 3am.
The inspection focused on ensuring contractors adhered to approved conditions while carrying out repair and maintenance works, including road resurfacing, drain repairs and utility-related activities.
DBKL said the checks also covered works involving the installation and maintenance of water supply systems, electricity lines and telecommunications networks to ensure compliance with site approval requirements.
During inspections at five locations, four contractors were found to have violated standard operating procedures (SOPs), resulting in 12 compound notices being issued.
Among the offences detected were the absence of warning lights, failure to provide traffic controllers and damage to pedestrian walkways.
Several contractors were also found to have carried out road closures without approval, used tracked heavy machinery, transported construction materials using lorries without permits and left public roads in an unclean condition.
DBKL said enforcement action was taken under the Road Transport of Materials (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) By-Laws 1997, which resulted in four compound notices, while eight notices were issued under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.
Meanwhile, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) issued six attendance notices requiring contractors to provide information regarding construction works carried out without proper approval.
DBKL said monitoring and enforcement actions will continue from time to time to ensure all contractors comply with regulations and maintain public safety.
