Barisan Nasional (BN) has reiterated that its political cooperation for the Negri Sembilan state election will not result in the coalition compromising its principles or accepting divisive political narratives.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the coalition remained firm in upholding its values despite the political understanding reached for the state polls.
He stressed that the cooperation formed for the election did not mean BN would abandon its own principles or adopt the views and narratives of other parties.
Zambry said BN’s strength had always been rooted in its multiracial power-sharing approach, which he described as a foundation that contributed to Malaysia’s development over the past six decades through moderation, mutual respect and political stability.
He said the coalition would continue prioritising national harmony and progress while maintaining its commitment to a united Malaysia.
At the same time, Zambry warned that statements which could spark racial tension, question the belonging of any community or create unnecessary fear among Malaysians should not be encouraged.
He said politics based on racial division had no place in the country after nearly seven decades of independence, adding that such approaches could weaken unity.
Zambry also criticised what he described as “politics of fear”, claiming that some groups were attempting to create concerns among voters by suggesting certain communities would be threatened by political cooperation involving different parties.
According to him, fear-based politics could lead to suspicion, prejudice and hatred among the people.
He said BN would continue advocating moderation, stability and national unity while respecting the Federal Constitution, the Rukun Negara and the country’s constitutional framework.
Zambry added that BN remained committed to protecting Islam as the religion of the Federation, the institution of the Malay Rulers, the special position of Malays and Bumiputera, as well as the legitimate rights of all Malaysian citizens.
He said BN rejected efforts to create divisions between communities and would instead focus on building trust, strengthening unity and shaping a shared future for the nation.
