Six local men will be charged at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court tomorrow over the alleged kidnapping of a businessman for a RM7 million ransom on July 17.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M Kumar confirmed that investigations into eight suspects detained in connection with the case have been completed.
He said the investigation papers were referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers on July 24, following which the prosecution instructed six local male suspects to face charges under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for kidnapping with the intention of obtaining ransom.
“If convicted, they may face imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, as well as whipping,” he said in a statement.
The suspects are expected to be charged at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court at 9.30am on July 27, 2026.
M Kumar said the remaining two suspects, comprising a local man and a woman, were released and made prosecution witnesses under police bail in accordance with Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Previously, it was reported that a businessman was believed to have been abducted in Petaling Jaya on July 17 before being released after a ransom of RM7 million was allegedly paid.
M Kumar said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) remains committed to taking continuous action against individuals or groups involved in criminal activities, especially violent crimes, to ensure public safety and security.
He also urged members of the public to continue cooperating with authorities by providing information to help curb criminal activities.
