Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has called on secondary school students to cultivate stronger patriotic values and digital literacy to better prepare themselves for the challenges of the modern world.
He said a solid understanding of the nation’s history and identity is essential in helping young Malaysians recognise their responsibilities as citizens and contribute to the country’s future development.
“As sons and daughters of this nation, we all have a role to play. Understanding our history and our responsibilities is important if we want to help move the country forward,” he said.
Fahmi made the remarks after taking part in a dialogue session with 60 Form Six students under the Pentarama X Kelab Malaysiaku programme and the Safe Internet Campaign at the Jempol Information Office.
The event, organised by the Information Department (JaPen), brought together students from SMK Batu Kikir, SMK Seri Perpatih and SMK Datuk Mansor in the Jempol parliamentary constituency.
During the session, Fahmi said he was encouraged by the students’ curiosity and awareness of current issues. Many raised questions about fake news, mental health, social media and the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI), reflecting the concerns of today’s younger generation.
He explained that the programme uses an edutainment approach to not only support National Month celebrations but also create an interactive platform where students can engage directly with ministry leaders and voice their opinions.
Also present at the event were JaPen director-general Erwin Khairul Ahmad and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Negeri Sembilan director Faisal Hamdi Mohammed Ghouth.
Meanwhile, Erwin Khairul said the Pentarama X Kelab Malaysiaku initiative has been expanded nationwide to promote patriotism, unity and greater awareness of National Day and Malaysia Day among students.
He added that there are currently 850 Kelab Malaysiaku across the country, while Pentarama continues to deliver government messages and patriotic values through performances featuring music, dance and drama.
