DAP has denied allegations that it interferes in Negeri Sembilan’s Royal Institution, insisting that the party fully respects the state’s constitutional framework and traditional institutions.
Negeri Sembilan DAP publicity secretary Lim Chun Weng said the party was disappointed that it had once again become the target of accusations during the state election campaign, describing such claims as baseless and politically motivated.
He said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook had made it clear from the outset that the party had never interfered and would never interfere in matters involving Negeri Sembilan’s royal institution or customary traditions.
“Our position has always been consistent. We respect and uphold the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution, as well as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, the Undang Yang Empat and the Tunku Besar of Tampin,” Lim said after lodging a police report at the Seremban District Police Headquarters on Monday.
He urged political leaders, particularly those from UMNO, to stop making what he described as defamatory and racially charged statements against DAP. According to him, political campaigns should be based on facts, policies and administrative performance rather than fabricated allegations.
Lim also criticised UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki over remarks suggesting Anthony Loke could become Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar if Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun were defeated in the upcoming state election.
He said the claim was misleading and demonstrated a lack of understanding of the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution, which clearly sets out the qualifications and process for appointing a Menteri Besar.
Lim further condemned remarks by UMNO Rembau information chief Shukri Shamsuddin, who allegedly claimed that DAP had influence over the Negeri Sembilan royal institution. He described the allegation as malicious, irresponsible and capable of creating unnecessary speculation, especially at a time when issues involving the state’s traditional institutions were already sensitive.
He said such matters should not be exploited as campaign material to gain political support and confirmed that a police report had been lodged to enable investigations into the allegations.
Lim also called for an end to what he described as politics based on slander and fear, rejecting claims that Malays would lose power if Pakatan Harapan retained control of Negeri Sembilan.
“We have governed Negeri Sembilan for the past eight years, and the people of this state have continued to live in peace and harmony,” he said.
The controversy follows the circulation of a viral video featuring an UMNO Rembau leader alleging that the Negeri Sembilan palace was under DAP’s control.
