Seven employees from vehicle repair workshops and new and used auto parts businesses across Terengganu have been arrested during a six-day Op Lejang Khas operation targeting vehicle theft activities.
The suspects, aged between 16 and 43, were detained to assist police investigations into cases involving stolen cars and motorcycles.
Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said officers inspected 66 workshops and vehicle parts premises throughout the state during the operation, which ran from July 19 to July 24.
He said the operation was aimed at ensuring the businesses were not involved in buying or selling stolen vehicle parts.
Although no stolen vehicles were recovered, police seized several suspicious motorcycle parts, engine components and helmets believed to be linked to ongoing investigations.
Four suspects were arrested after they failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the ownership of vehicle parts found at their business premises. They are being investigated under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
The remaining three suspects were arrested under Section 379A of the Penal Code to assist investigations into motorcycle theft cases.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to a wider vehicle theft syndicate operating in the state.
