Kuala Lumpur’s top police officer, Fadil Marsus, clarified that police and other enforcement agencies were simply carrying out a court-issued writ of vacant possession for 37 terrace houses in Kampung Sungai Baru today.
Addressing the tense standoff between authorities and some residents, Fadil emphasized that the police were acting to ensure the eviction process followed the court’s order. “Despite the challenges, the eviction will proceed today in line with the court order,” he said, according to Berita Harian.
Fadil expressed regret over the incident in which Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman was struck by an object, leaving a bleeding head wound. “Such incidents should never happen. Police will remain firm and disciplined during operations, and I urge residents to cooperate to complete the eviction,” he added.
Sulizmie sustained injuries amid the confrontation, prompting condemnation from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, with the Prime Minister calling for an immediate investigation to apprehend those responsible.
The redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru, initiated in 2016, had previously stalled due to legal disputes, compensation disagreements, and conflicts among residents.
