Six brothers and a friend were charged in the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday with trafficking more than 118 grams of heroin last week.
No plea was recorded from Muhammad Affandi Zulkafli, 41; Muhammad Khairul Azmil Zulkafli, 40; Shahrul Azwan Zulkafli, 38; Mohamad Shah Herman Zulkafli, 35; Muhamad Amirul Zulkafli, 29; Mohamad Hafizi Zulkafli, 27; and Mohd Ismail Borhan, 43.
The six brothers appeared before Magistrate Norizan Ridzuan, while the charge against Mohd Ismail was read to him at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) later the same day as he was receiving medical treatment.
According to the charge, the seven unemployed men were jointly accused of trafficking 118.87 grams of heroin.
The alleged offence took place at an unnumbered hut in Kampung Che Zainal Tambahan 1, Chemor, near Ipoh, at about 9.20pm on July 21, 2026.
They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the accused face the death penalty or life imprisonment. Those sentenced to life imprisonment instead of death would also be liable to at least 12 strokes of the cane.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Zariss Sofea Zainudin, while all seven accused were unrepresented.
The court fixed October 22 for the next case mention and the submission of the chemistry report.
