BN Does Not Shield Leaders From Legal Action, Says Johari

Date:

Barisan Nasional (BN) has never protected party leaders accused of wrongdoing, with action taken against anyone found to have committed offences through the proper legal process, according to UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

Johari said allegations that BN shields leaders involved in scandals do not reflect the coalition’s actual stance, stressing that the party has consistently acted against members regardless of their rank or position.

“Whenever BN is faced with leaders involved in scandals, we take action,” he said while speaking at a gathering in Kampung Tengah Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, on Tuesday.

He noted that BN had taken action against former menteri besar, state executive council (Exco) members, ministers and even state liaison committee chairpersons when necessary.

“Even if someone who served as Prime Minister is found guilty by the court, they will still have to go through the legal process,” he said.

Johari, who is also the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, stressed that BN has never been a party that defends individuals who break the law.

He said that throughout its more than 60 years of governing Malaysia, BN had never sheltered criminals, adding that anyone found guilty would be dealt with according to the law.

“If a leader commits an offence, take action. Let the courts decide. We have never wanted to defend those who are guilty. What matters is that everyone goes through the proper legal process,” he said.
