A 25-year-old Indonesian singer was arrested after allegedly causing a disturbance at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 when his flight to Jakarta was delayed by five hours.
Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the incident occurred at about 7pm on Sunday at the transit counter on Level 4 of the airport’s Main Terminal Building.
The singer was scheduled to board Batik Air flight OD390 from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta. However, the flight was delayed until 8pm due to a technical issue.
Police said the man became aggressive after learning of the delay. Despite repeated explanations from airline staff, he allegedly hurled vulgarities, made threatening and provocative remarks, and recorded the incident on his mobile phone while claiming he would upload the video online.
Airport staff later sought assistance from Batik Air’s security team and airport auxiliary police after the situation escalated. The officers managed to calm him and directed him to Gate G4 to prepare for boarding.
However, at about 8.12pm, the suspect allegedly caused another disturbance during the boarding process. Police said he intentionally moved close to a female ticketing officer and behaved inappropriately, allegedly harassing her while his boarding pass was being checked.
For the safety of passengers and airline operations, Batik Air decided to deny him boarding, and airport auxiliary police escorted him away from the boarding gate.
Police said the suspect continued shouting abuse at officers and airport staff while being taken to the Immigration office. He allegedly used obscene language and repeatedly demanded to speak to a lawyer before being arrested at the scene.
Initial investigations found no damage to public property, with the incident believed to have been triggered by the flight delay.
The case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for indecent behaviour, Section 188 of the Penal Code for disobeying an order duly promulgated by a public servant, and Section 294 of the Penal Code for committing obscene acts in a public place.
Police have recorded statements from witnesses, are reviewing CCTV footage, and have informed the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia as well as Interpol. The suspect is expected to be brought before the Sepang Magistrate’s Court for a remand application to facilitate further investigations.
