Firefighters successfully rescued a 14-year-old female student from the second floor of a religious secondary school in Kuala Terengganu after she was believed to have suffered emotional distress.
The incident occurred at about 9.33am on Monday, with personnel from the Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the school approximately two minutes after receiving the emergency call.
According to Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station chief Thoyyibah Taib, a team of seven firefighters was deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the Form Two student in an emotionally unstable state and behaving aggressively.
The rescue team spent about 10 minutes using psychological and verbal de-escalation techniques to calm and reassure the teenager.
“Thankfully, the victim was eventually persuaded to cooperate. Firefighters then safely guided her away from the area without any untoward incident,” Thoyyibah said.
Based on preliminary information, the school believed the student had been experiencing emotional stress.
The suspicion arose after school staff reportedly found a note in one of her exercise books expressing intentions to harm herself.
The student was safely rescued, and no injuries were reported.
