A 13-year-old boy reportedly filed a false police report claiming he had been kidnapped after his school shoes were soiled by cat droppings, all because he did not want to go to school, said Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim.
The police received the report at 9:22 a.m. on Thursday. The boy allegedly claimed he was abducted while walking to school and later informed his 37-year-old father.
“The boy and his father then went to the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division to give a statement regarding the attempted kidnapping,” he said.
However, after questioning, police discovered that the report was entirely fabricated.
“The student admitted that the police report was made up as an excuse because he did not want to attend school. The reason he gave was that his school shoes had been soiled by cat droppings,” he added.
Police investigations against the boy were not pursued since he is still a student, but both he and his father received a stern warning.
The father also withdrew the police report after being informed of the true circumstances.
Authorities reminded the public that making false police reports is a serious offense.
“If found guilty, the case can be prosecuted under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both,” ACP Mohd Iqbal said.
