Former Selangor UMNO chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar believes UMNO Selangor will eventually work with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and will not remain aligned with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state.
Noh said his confidence was based on the party leadership’s commitment to its principles, insisting that Selangor UMNO was not driven by the pursuit of positions in the state government.
“God willing, when the time comes, UMNO Selangor will stand together with PN in Selangor and not with PH. We just have to wait and see,” he said in a video shared on Thursday night.
He was responding to Bersatu Supreme Council member Dr Afif Bahardin, who challenged Barisan Nasional (BN) to withdraw its support for the Selangor government if its cooperation with PAS was genuine and not merely political posturing.
Afif had urged BN to make its stand clear before the Selangor State Legislative Assembly convenes on Aug 3, adding that state executive councillor Datuk Rizam Ismail and Dusun Tua assemblyman Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz should leave the state administration if UMNO truly intended to align itself with PAS.
Commenting on Rizam’s position in the state government, Noh said the matter should be left to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to decide.
“Let the Menteri Besar determine whether he wants to remove him or not,” he said.
Noh also dismissed claims that Selangor UMNO was seeking positions in the state administration, claiming that party leaders had previously turned down several offers, including appointments to local authorities, state government-linked companies and village leadership posts.
According to him, this demonstrated that Selangor UMNO remained committed to its struggle rather than personal gain.
He also praised Selangor UMNO leaders who attended a PAS-organised rally in support of the sovereignty of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, over the pig farming issue.
Noh said he was deeply moved to see UMNO leaders, including Megat Zulkarnain, the Selangor UMNO Youth chief and Johan Abdul Aziz, standing together in support of the Sultan.
He further claimed he had been informed that Bersatu Selangor leaders had instructed party members not to participate in the gathering, questioning the party’s commitment to its principles.
