Date:

The body of an unidentified man was found floating in the waters off Tanjung Hantu, Pulau Pangkor, by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) Perak yesterday.

Perak Maritime director Captain Mohamad Shukri Khotob said the Perak Maritime Headquarters Operations Centre received an emergency call through the 999 hotline at 10.31am regarding the discovery of a floating body about 2.4km southwest of Tanjung Hantu.

Following the report, Bot Penggalang 1639 was deployed to the location to verify the discovery and carry out further action.

“The boat arrived at the scene at 11.22am and confirmed the discovery of a male body believed to be an Indonesian national, wearing a black shirt and shorts,” he said in a statement.

Mohamad Shukri said initial investigations found that the body was first spotted by a fishing boat about 2.6km west of Tanjung Hantu before the information was relayed to APMM for further action.

He added that the victim’s body was later taken to the Kampung Acheh Fisheries Jetty before being handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for identification, post-mortem examination and further investigation.
