23-Year-Old Gets 8 Years in Jail After Beating Father Unconscious with Iron Rod

Date:

A 23-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court today after admitting to assaulting his father with an iron rod.

Mohamad Khairul Azain pleaded guilty before Judge Zuraidah Zakaria to voluntarily causing hurt to his 51-year-old father with a weapon capable of causing death.

The attack took place at their home in Pengkalan Pending, Jalan Pending, at around 2.55am on September 7. The court was told that the accused flew into a rage after being confronted about household items belonging to his father that he had allegedly sold. In the heat of the moment, he repeatedly struck his father with an iron rod, causing the victim to lose consciousness.

The father sustained head injuries, facial bruises, and swelling on his right leg, and was rushed to hospital for treatment. A police report was lodged, and the accused was arrested two days later.

Investigations revealed the attack was deliberate. Records also showed that Khairul had two previous offences: one for criminal intimidation in 2020 and another for assaulting a family member. In both cases, he was released on good behaviour bonds due to his young age.

During sentencing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff urged the court to impose a heavy penalty, stressing that the accused had repeated violent behaviour and showed no remorse. He said the sentence must act as a deterrent and protect public safety.
