The Selangor government will prioritise governance and public welfare over political narratives and election campaigning, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said.
Amirudin said the state administration still has at least one year and up to two years to fulfil the mandate given by the people before the next state election.
He stressed that the government’s focus should remain on implementing policies and delivering quality public services rather than becoming distracted by political debates.
“Political dynamics can always change, and the state government still has at least one to two years to carry out its responsibilities to the people before the next election,” he said.
He made the remarks after attending the Selangor Civil Service Assembly and Jalur Gemilang Campaign at the Dewan Jubli Perak Auditorium, Sultan Abdul Aziz Building, on Monday.
When asked about the possibility of straight fights in future elections, Amirudin said there was no certainty that contests would only involve two coalitions.
“There could be three-cornered or even four-cornered contests. Political dynamics can change, so we will have to see how the situation develops,” he said.
Amirudin also criticised political campaigns that exploit racial sentiments, saying such tactics only create fear and division among Malaysians.
He said campaigns that encourage one community to fear another do not benefit the country and instead weaken the unity that has been built since independence.
“These campaigns are designed to make people fear the Chinese community or other races. The result is not just electoral gains for one group, but every community begins building barriers against one another,” he said.
He stressed that Malaysia must continue embracing a moderate approach to preserve national unity regardless of changes in government or political leadership.
Amirudin added that the country’s long-term priority should not simply be winning elections but protecting Malaysia’s identity as a multi-racial nation.
“The question is not only about winning elections, but about the kind of Malaysia we want to build,” he said.
