Chinese Woman Arrested Over Alleged Sextortion Attempt In Cheras

Date:

Police have arrested a Chinese national suspected of attempting to extort money by threatening to release intimate photos of a victim in Cheras.

According to a source, the case came to light after the complainant was informed by an employee that the suspect had sent threatening messages while the employee was in China.

The suspect allegedly demanded money and threatened to publish intimate photographs if the payment was not made.

The complainant refused to comply with the demand and instead lodged a police report, prompting an investigation.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud confirmed that the report was received at 4.45pm on July 8.

He said a Chinese woman believed to be involved in the alleged extortion had since been arrested.

The case is being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code for putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion.

The suspect was remanded from July 23 to July 28, and the investigation papers are being finalised before being submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.
