A female teacher was found dead inside a teachers’ toilet at a secondary school in Bau today.
The victim was discovered lying motionless and unconscious on the toilet floor before medical personnel confirmed her death at 9.08am.
Bau district police chief Superintendent Mohd Haide A Rahman said police were alerted after receiving information from the Kuching Emergency Medical Centre (MECC) through the MERS 999 emergency line at about 8.53am.
He said a team from the Bau Police Station was immediately dispatched to the school to conduct initial investigations.
“Preliminary investigations found that the victim was lying on the floor of the female teachers’ toilet at the school,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Haide said interviews with the victim’s colleagues revealed that she had been serving as a Science and Biology teacher for 25 years.
He said the victim was last seen by a colleague at about 8.15am in the teachers’ room before informing them that she wanted to go to the toilet.
At around 8.35am, another teacher noticed that the victim had not arrived for her class, prompting colleagues to search for her at the teachers’ toilet.
“When the toilet door was opened, the victim was found lying down and unconscious. An emergency call was then made to seek medical assistance,” he said.
Mohd Haide said medical officers from Bau Hospital later confirmed the woman’s death at the scene at 9.08am.
Initial checks by the Bau Criminal Investigation Division found no suspicious injuries or signs of criminal elements on the victim’s body.
The case has been classified as a sudden death report (SDR), while the victim’s body was sent to Bau Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
