Police have launched a new murder investigation after several bones believed to be human remains were discovered inside a worn-out sack at a MADA reserve land bordering Bohor Mali, Mukim Kayang, on Wednesday.
Kangar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the latest case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code following the discovery, which was reported to police at about 12.55pm.
He said the remains were found by a 61-year-old man who was clearing overgrown vegetation on land recently purchased by his daughter around two months ago.
During the clean-up, the man noticed several bones protruding from a torn and weathered white sack that was partially buried and concealed beneath thick bushes on the MADA reserve land adjacent to his daughter’s property. He immediately contacted the Simpang Empat Police Station to report the discovery.
A forensic examination at the scene uncovered several bones, a pair of boxer shorts, a pair of short trousers and a belt inside the deteriorated sack. Initial investigations indicated that the items had been left at the location for a considerable period.
Yusharifuddin said forensic officers measured the latest discovery site and found it was only about 31.1 metres from where another suspected human skeleton was discovered inside a gunny sack on July 26 near a paddy field opposite a rice mill in Kampung Behor Mali.
Given the close proximity between the two locations, police have classified both cases as murder investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code while awaiting further forensic findings.
All recovered items have been sent to the Forensic Department of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar for pathological analysis. Preliminary results are expected within a week to help determine the identity of the remains and establish the cause of the incident.
Police have urged anyone with missing family members to lodge a report at the nearest police station or contact investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Tengku Moh Farid Tengku Ibrahim at 019-9939200 to assist investigations.
Yusharifuddin stressed that investigations remain ongoing and police have not ruled out any possibility pending the outcome of the forensic analysis.
