A palm oil plantation worker was arrested after police discovered a suspected airgun, a samurai sword and drugs believed to be methamphetamine during a raid at a house along Jalan Selangau-Mukah on Wednesday.
Mukah District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Muhamad Rizal Alias said the 36-year-old local man was initially targeted following suspicions of involvement in drug abuse activities.
He said a search conducted on the suspect found a transparent straw tube containing 0.46 grams of crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, or syabu, hidden inside a cigarette box kept in the suspect’s sling bag.
Further inspection inside the suspect’s room uncovered several items believed to be linked to weapons possession, including a suspected airgun, a 79cm-long samurai sword, 80 marbles believed to be used as ammunition and a transparent plastic spray bottle.
Muhamad Rizal said the suspect has yet to make any admission regarding ownership of the weapons, while police investigations are still ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
The case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, as well as Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He added that the suspect, who has no previous criminal record, has been remanded until Aug 9 to assist with investigations.
Police are continuing efforts to gather evidence and establish whether the seized items were linked to any other criminal activities.
