Two police officers in Kluang are facing disciplinary action after they were allegedly found to have asked for RM100 each in exchange for not taking action against a motorcyclist.
Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident was believed to have occurred at about 12.20am on Wednesday near a supermarket along Jalan Persiaran Utama, Bandar Newpark.
He said police launched an investigation after a post concerning the alleged incident went viral on Threads on Friday through the account @_zz.aaaa.
“The post alleged that the two officers had extorted and solicited a bribe from a member of the public, resulting in a negative perception of the Royal Malaysia Police.
“Following this, a further investigation was conducted, including disciplinary action against the officers involved,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
The viral post claimed the complainant’s cousin had approached the two officers after being stopped for an offence involving riding a motorcycle without a valid licence.
According to the post, the individual was allegedly asked to pay RM100 to settle the matter without further action, but refused and chose to accept the summons instead.
The individual then allegedly told the officers that he would report their conduct to their superiors. One of the officers was subsequently accused of threatening to implicate him in a cannabis-related offence.
Bahrin stressed that the police would not compromise when dealing with personnel found to have tarnished the reputation and integrity of the force.
He said firm action would be taken against any officers proven to have committed misconduct, reinforcing the need for members of the public to have confidence in the police force.
