Selangor Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has urged Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to remain calm and stay focused on the state’s development agenda amid renewed speculation over possible political realignments.
Addressing Amirudin as his “younger brother”, Mohamed Azmin said the Menteri Besar should not allow political developments and speculation to distract him from efforts to develop Selangor.
He also expressed his support for Amirudin to continue leading the state’s development, stressing that the Menteri Besar was not alone in facing the current political landscape.
“Wahai adinda Menteri Besar, jangan gundah gulana. You are not alone. I am always here for Selangor!” he said during the debate on the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
Mohamed Azmin said Selangor’s development should continue to be driven by unity that delivers progress and prosperity for the people, rather than division based on political or racial interests.
He also criticised groups that, in his view, sought to justify kleptocracy and poor governance under the banner of Malay unity.
“The political situation becomes even crazier when there are groups that justify kleptocracy and endorse wrongdoing with new fatwas. This is a process of fooling the people.
“In the name of so-called Malay unity, Malays are now divided. When Malays become divided, they blame other races to cover up their own falsehoods,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Azmin called for Selangor’s economic growth, particularly its gross domestic product (GDP), to remain strong so that the benefits of economic development could reach communities in Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor and Kuala Langat, rather than being concentrated mainly in Petaling Jaya and Subang.
He also stressed the importance of clear and accurate communication to help the public understand and accept state government policies.
“Improve public communication and strengthen the State Government Media Unit.
“I am prepared to convey accurate economic facts to the people to ensure the success of our efforts to build a developed and prosperous Selangor,” he said.
When met at the Selangor State Assembly lobby, Mohamed Azmin declined to confirm whether his remarks were a veiled reference to a possible political alignment between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Selangor.
“I did not mention anything. I only called him ‘adinda’ because he is younger than me.
“But look, I am happy. I always remain happy and calm,” he said.
