A 39-year-old man was killed after the Proton Wira he was driving, which was carrying sacks of rice, skidded and overturned into a drain along the East-West Highway in Kampung Batu 9, Batang Merbau, on Monday night.
Kemahang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operation commander Senior Fire Officer I Mat Nuri Muhamad said the department received an emergency call through NG999 at about 11.44pm.
He said firefighters arrived at the scene six minutes later and found the car had veered off the road before overturning into the drain.
“The Malay male driver was trapped in the driver’s seat following the crash.
“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the victim before handing him over to medical personnel,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
Mat Nuri said the operation, involving five firefighters, was fully concluded at about 12.28am.
