Iran President Says Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei In Good Health

Date:

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in good health, according to Xinhua, amid continued public interest in the leader’s absence from public appearances.

Pezeshkian made the remarks during an interview with state broadcaster IRIB on Monday, following what he described as a seven-hour meeting with Khamenei.

He said national unity and solidarity were among the key issues emphasised by the Supreme Leader during their discussion.

Describing the meeting as “very good”, Pezeshkian said they discussed several domestic concerns, including the rising cost of living, employment and housing.

“We also discussed problems caused by sanctions,” he said.

Iranian media reported on Sunday that Pezeshkian had met Khamenei as he entered the third year of his presidency. The meeting comes amid growing attention surrounding the Supreme Leader, who has largely remained out of public view since taking office.

Mojtaba Khamenei was selected as Iran’s new Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts in March, following the death of his father and former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli attack on February 28.

Since his appointment, Mojtaba Khamenei has not made a public appearance, making Pezeshkian’s latest comments on his health particularly notable.
