A 39-year-old woman faces the death penalty after being charged at the Magistrates’ Court here today with murdering her 16-month-old step-granddaughter late last month.
The accused, Nurul Farhana Laili Shah, understood the charge after it was read before Magistrate Hafizah Abdul Rajak.
According to the charge, she was accused of murdering Nur Anggun Dahlia Abdullah between 12.30pm on July 30 and 9.30am on July 31 at a house in Taman Sri Saujana here.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Afiqah Musa, while the accused was represented by lawyers Lidyana Mansor and Farah Yasmin.
Nor Afiqah asked the court to set another date to allow the prosecution to obtain the chemistry and post-mortem reports, as well as the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test results.
The prosecution also said bail should not be offered as the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which concerns murder.
Following the submissions, Hafizah fixed December 11 for mention of the case.
The case follows an earlier report that a 39-year-old woman was expected to be charged over the death of her step-granddaughter, who was one year and four months old, at Taman Sri Saujana last month.
