The Sarawak Immigration Department detained 42 foreigners suspected of committing various immigration offences during enforcement operations conducted in Kuching and surrounding areas.
The operations, codenamed Ops Sapu and Ops Kutip, were carried out by the Kuching enforcement division from 10pm on Aug 10 until 3am the following day.
Officers inspected 45 individuals at three locations, including shared houses and rented rooms around Jalan Merdang Limau, Kota Samarahan and Mile 6, Jalan Penrissen.
Of those inspected, 42 foreigners were detained for suspected offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63. The offences included unlawful entry under Section 6(1)(c) and overstaying under Section 15(1)(c).
The department said the enforcement action followed complaints from the public as well as intelligence gathered by its Kuching enforcement division.
Authorities said such operations would continue to be intensified based on intelligence and information received from members of the public.
The department also urged the public to report any suspected violations of immigration laws to assist enforcement efforts and ensure compliance with the country’s immigration regulations.
